South Beach

Written by Danny Hammontree

It all started that Saturday afternoon at Jerry’s famous Deli on South Beach. We had a bite to eat and then walked over to Ocean Drive to photograph the excitement throughout the Art Deco District of South Beach. Our objective for the evening was to learn low light and long exposure photographic techniques from South Beach resident Steve “Vortex of Knowledge” Wilkinson.

As we strolled South on Deco Drive photographing buildings, cars driving by, and people partying at the clubs and cafes, many passer-bys asked what we were up to and who we were looking for as if we were paparazzi. Carlos Miller would periodically yell out “Is that Paris Hilton?” who just happened to be in jail at the time. This was pretty funny to us geeks, but I don’t think anyone else was entertained by it, especially those that were following us to see if they could see Paris.

A few of us stayed late and some of us stayed very late photographing well into early morning Sunday. Over the next few days I received through my inbox many beautiful photographs. Below is just a sample of the great photographs created that night/morning.
