Rick’s 35 years as an award winning photojournalist, artist, educator, and author, have taught him a lot. at this meeting he will bring you a fast paced Seminar covering the 20 greatest ideas that have changed his world and he hope will change yours to. Rick McCawley has had a passion for photography for over 35 years, starting with his first underwater photos in Florida’s springs. He spent 10 years at the Miami Herald as a staff photographer and shot many national and world events. He was a member of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team that covered Hurricane Andrew. Rick also photographed the Miami riots of 1980, where his car was attacked and the window shot out with a bullet lodged in the back seat. He photographed the first space shuttle launch for United Press International, and was the first photographer to dive down to the sunken Spanish galleon “Nuestra Senora de Atocha” in the Keys. Rick has been published in Time, The New York Times, Bunte, Dier Spiegel, among countless others.
Rick holds an M.A. in Photography from Barry University, and is pursuing his MFA in Graphic Design at Florida Atlantic University. He has been a professor of graphic design at Broward College since 2000, and received the John and James L. Knight Endowed Teaching Chair in 2007.
