Danny Hammontree’s Photography Exhibit
On Saturday, November 7th from 6:00 PM till 10:00 PM, Danny Hammontree will be exhibiting eighteen black and white prints from his anti-war series photographed in Miami, Washington DC and Portland, Oregon. This exhibit will take place at Kevro’s Art Bar in Delray Beach Florida.
In January of 2005 Danny began photographing anti-war protest in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. His passion quickly grew for the subject matter and this type photography, and for the next three years he traveled to Washington DC regularly to document the people that would protest against the leadership of the United States, and those that would protest against the protesters. Many of his favorite photographs from this series came from a protest in Portland, Oregon in March of 2006 which marked the three year anniversary of the war in Iraq.
Opening night of this showcase will also feature the original music of Alex Nelson, a popular local singer-songwriter. So, plan to go out for dinner on the avenue and then swing by to have a cocktail, check out the art of Danny Hammontree and the musical talents of Alex Nelson (he’ll be on stage until about 9:15). Guest Speaker Pedro Lastra
On Thursday, November 12th 2009 @ 7:30 PM South Florida Camera Club will be presenting guest speaker Pedro Lastra. Pedro is an accomplished photographer in many genres of photography and specializes in bird and nature photography. He has had a lifelong passion for photography and was the photography editor of Brown University’s 1988 yearbook. Pedro began using Adobe Photoshop in 1997 and he now teaches locally at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens.
Pedro’s presentation at South Florida Camera Club is entitled “Bird Photography SLR Field Techniques” and will be geared towards the average SLR owner. Pedro will be showing much of his work and talk about the best methods in capturing stunning bird images. You can get a sneak peek of some of Pedro’s work by clicking here!

Gallery Night at UNCOMMON Gallery
The second Friday of every month is “Gallery Night” at UNCOMMON Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. Meet other artists and enjoy their work in this unique atmosphere. Also enjoy sandwiches, cheese, wine and deserts throughout the evening. This is a great opportunity for South Florida Camera Club members to get together and socialize. Please bring your friends and help spread the word.
UNCOMMON Gallery is an alternative, casual style gallery promoting arts with a collection of images that explore all areas and styles of artistic expression. Michael D. Colanero is the proprietor of UNCOMMON Gallery and is also a nationally recognized artist, illustrator and designer.

Meet Ken Sklute, A Canon Explorers of Light Photographer
On Wednesday, November 18th at 7:30 PM we will be holding a special meeting with Ken Sklute, one of Canon’s Explorers of Light. Canon’s Explorers of Light is a designation shared by only 60 top photographers worldwide and South Florida Camera Club is very honored to be able to present Ken on this night!
This presentation is free for South Florida Camera Club paid members and students. Because this event is funded by the awesome people at Canon, the cost to non-members will only be $20.00. What will Ken Sklute talk about?
As photographers we all look at the world and see things uniquely. We often move to fast and miss what is right in front of us. Ken will share his perspective and help you to be more in touch with your creative vision and teach you to see. We routinely pass magnificent locations, without stopping because we are not really seeing what is there. Ken will explain how he goes about finding locations, subjects and photographic environments that yield award winning results. Together we will explore creative ways of composing. You will learn to see light that carves your subject with grace, depth and dimension. He will motivate and ignite your passion, enabling you to take your craft to a new level of excellence.
Who is Ken Sklute?
During Ken Sklute’s 35 year photographic career, Ken has been named Photographer of the Year a total of 27 times between Arizona, New York, and California. Ken has accomplished his Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees from the Professional Photographers of America; Accolade of Photographic Mastery, Accolade of Outstanding Photographic Achievement, Accolade of Exceptional Photographic Achievement, Accolade of Highest Photographic Achievement, and the Accolade of Lifetime Photographic Excellence. In 2009, Ken was awarded the Photographer of the Year from the Professional Photographers of California, as well as Illustrative Photographer of the Year. 2009 saw Ken receive his 15th Kodak Gallery Award. Recent years have Ken awarded Best in Show at the Western States Regional Print Competition, Photographer of the Year-Western States Regional Print Competition; Photographer of the Year-Silver Level from the Professional Photographers of America; The Year 2005 saw Ken receive the Drag Racing Photographer of the Year from CompetitionPlus.com., Wedding Photographer of the Year and Photojournalist of the Year from the Professional Photographers of California, as well as receiving the Heidi Mauracher Starlite award for Best Wedding Photograph. Ken as accomplished 14 Kodak Gallery awards and 15 Fuji Masterpiece Awards. Ken spends much of his time teaching and lecturing both nationally and internationally.
November 2009 Photographic Competition
On Thursday November 19th at 7:30pm we’ll be having our photographic competition for the month. You can find all the rules for the competition by clicking on the “Competition Rules” link in the top left had corner of our website.
The selected winning photograph for each monthly competition will be framed by Frame Gallery and will then be displayed in UNCOMMON Gallery for a month. The photographer whose photo wins the year end Grand Prize competition will have a choice of selecting either a: Nikon D300s! Or a Canon 50D!

For many, it’s the soundtrack of our lives. These photographs can represent music as an idea, depict an instrument, musician, band, or even an empty stage. Show us how music touches your life.
Tracy Mendy Fashion Photography Exhibit
On Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 from 6 thru 10 PM Tracy Mendy will be showcasing her most recent fashion, portrait and lifestyle photography @ Samba Room on Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.
Tracy Mendy specializes in model composite cards, portfolio development, actor head-shots and special event photography. Tracy has photographed fashion week in New York City, Paris, London and Milan.
Everyone is invited to come out and support Tracy and have a great time with all the South Florida Camera Club folks!
