Guest Speaker Laurence Gartel
GARTEL: The Original Digital Artist: - The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Digital Media Artist Laurence GARTEL has been pioneering Digital Media Art for over 30-years. He started his career working along side video guru Nam June Paik at Media Study/Buffalo in the mid 70s. GARTEL’s work has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, Norton Museum, Princeton Art Museum, Long Beach Museum of Art and in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of American History as well as the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London. GARTEL recently received the Life Time Acheivement Award “FOTO MENTOR” from the Palm Beach Photographic Centre.
GARTEL will discuss his evolutionary rise to stardom and how he literally created the GARTEL brand. This will be a presentation- lecture not to be missed. GARTEL will have posters available to sign, as a one time offer to our Camera Club you will not be able to resist.

Gallery Night at UNCOMMON Gallery
The second Friday of every month is “Gallery Night” at UNCOMMON Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. Meet other artists and enjoy their work in this unique atmosphere. Also enjoy sandwiches, cheese, wine and deserts throughout the evening. This is a great opportunity for South Florida Camera Club members to get together and socialize. Please bring your friends and help spread the word.
UNCOMMON Gallery is an alternative, casual style gallery promoting arts with a collection of images that explore all areas and styles of artistic expression. Michael D. Colanero is the proprietor of UNCOMMON Gallery and is also a nationally recognized artist, illustrator and designer.
If you’re an artist interested in promoting your work, increasing your visibility, and looking for more opportunities for potential sale, you can have Michael give you a portfolio review to start the process for gallery exhibit consideration. Vionette’s Photography Exposé
On Saturday, May 9th 2009 from 7 till 10 PM, South Florida Camera Club member Vionette will be exhibiting her Photography Exposé at Atmosphere Lounge in Fort Lauderdale. Beer, wine, coffee and music will be provided by Twilight Notes, so come consume you favorite beverage, meet Vionette and view her beautiful photographs, some of which are from her recent trip to Paris, France. TYE Studios “Permit to Shoot” shoot-a-thon
TYE Studios “Permit to Shoot” is a shoot-a-thon for photographers of all levels from novice to professional. TYE staff provides multiple shooting areas and four to five amateur models new to the industry will be provided for your shoot. A professional makeup and hair stylist has been added to this event to insure you get quality images. This shoot is perfect for studio experience, portfolio building, and networking with other photographers and models. No studio experience necessary, the staff will help you.
“Permit to Shoot” takes place the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00-9:30 pm, and is $125.00 to attend. TYE Staff is on hand to help guide you in getting the best images possible. The night is a chance for you to exercise your camera, practice your craft, learn how to work with models, network with other photographers and have fun.

May’s Photographic Competition “Abstract”
On Thursday May 21st at 7:30pm we’ll be having our photographic competition for the month. You can find all the rules for the competition by clicking on the “Competition Rules” link in the top left had corner of our website.
The selected winning photograph for each monthly competition will be framed by Frame Gallery and will then be displayed in UNCOMMON Gallery for a month. The photographer whose photo wins the year end Grand Prize competition will have a choice of selecting either a: Nikon D300! Or a Canon 50D!
Theme: Abstract.
Play with color, texture, light, perspective, composition… or whatever means you choose, to create an image that is a unique exploration of your own vision.

Butterfly World Fieldtrip
On Saturday, May 23rd at 9 AM South Florida Camera Club will be going to Butterfly World located in Tradewinds Park – South, in Coconut Creek.
Since its doors first opened in the Spring of 1988, Butterfly World has introduced hundreds of thousands of visitors to the wonders of Lepidoptera and the natural world around us all. Butterfly World is the largest butterfly facility in the world today!
I have been to Butterfly World several times and it’s a wonderful place to take photographs of not only butterflies, caterpillars and birds, but also beautiful flowers. This will be a great event for any of you that are new to photography and need help with your camera. There will be many of us there to help out and teach camera techniques, so be prepared with your questions.
The admission rate for adults is $24.95 and If you think Butterfly World is a place you’d like to visit many times in the near future, you may want to get the annual pass for $40.00.

This Event is open to all Models, Photographers, Designers, Makeup Artists, Stylists, Agents, Producers, Event Planners, Graphic Artists, Business/Image Consultants and anyone who is looking to get started in the South Florida Fashion Industry.
