The South Florida Camera Club is open to anyone interested in photography. We are a group of photography enthusiasts ranging in skill from beginner to advance professionals. All age groups are welcome and we encourage you to come attend one of our competition meetings for free to see if you want to join. All that is needed is a love of photography and the desire to become a better photographer.
Non-members may also come to one of our workshops or or listen to one of our guest speakers for a fee of $40.00. This fee may then be applied to membership within 30 days if you choose to join South Florida Camera Club. Everything is free and inclusive for paid members of South Florida Camera Club. Workshops and guest speakers always take place at the first meeting of the month. Non-members may come to a photographic competition for free to check us out, but only SFCC members may compete and vote. Photographic competitions take place on the third Thursday of every month.
South Florida Camera Club meets the first and third Thursday of the month. The first Thursday of the month is reserved for guest speakers and training in areas of photography. The third Thursday of the month is reserved for our monthly photographic competition and travel log presentation. Each month we have at least one planned fieldtrip to take photos as a group relating to different types of photography. A few times a year we have club parties and awards ceremonies for winners of various club competitions.
The photography training offered by South Florida Camera Club is catered to what the group would like the most. Members are encouraged to voice their desires and needs of our club.
Some of our previous classes have included:
- How to operate a camera.
- How to use flash lighting.
- Photoshop techniques.
- Photo lab printing techniques.
- What to know about having your photos framed.
- How to use a camera when doing night photography or long exposures.
- How to clean camera sensors and lenses.
- Portrait and model photography.
- How to use studio lighting.
- Your legal rights as a photographer.
- How to grow as a photographer and business entrepreneur in the wedding industry.
- How to use a professional photography studio.
- Seminars with representatives from both Nikon and Canon.
Photographic competitions are held once a month, for members, and usually have a theme, although some months the theme is open to any genre of photography. The competition is voted on by all members. After the winner of the competition is announced, all photos are individually critiqued and each photographer is given the opportunity to tell the story behind their photograph. The winning photograph is then framed for free by Frame Gallery of Fort Lauderdale, and will hang in UNCOMMON Gallery for a month. At the end of the year a special competition will be held between the year’s twelve winning photographs, and members will vote for the “Best Photograph of the Year”. The winner of this competition will win their choice of a new Nikon D300s or Canon 7D digital SLR, which will be presented to them at a special ceremony.
There is an annual membership fee for the South Florida Camera Club. Membership begins the day of your first payment and ends one year from that day.
