Rick Sammon - The Camera Looks Both Ways

rick_sammon.jpgWe are very excited to announce that on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 Canon Explorer of Light photographer Rick Sammon will be coming to do a presentation at South Florida Camera Club on exploring digital imaging.

“The camera looks both ways – in picturing the subject, we are also picturing a part of ourselves.” That’s Rick’s favorite photo philosophy when it comes to photographing people. In this presentation, Rick will share some of his favorite people pictures from his travels around the word, as well as technical and personal advice on photographing strangers in strange lands.

Rick Sammon, a Canon Explorer of Light, is one of the most active photographers on the planet. The dude just can’t sit still! Rick has published 36 paper books, including Secrets of HDR Photography, Exploring the Light, and Digital Photography Secrets.

Rick Sammon’s 24/7 Photo Buffet for – an e-book that offers 24/7 access to Rick’s best photo tips, tricks and techniques. iPhone and iPad versions available.

Rick Sammon’s Social Media Marketing for Photographers, a series of Quick Time movies that features Rick’s tips on Social Media. iPhone and iPad versions available.

Rick Sammon’s Life Lessons We Can Learn From Mother Nature, a collection of Rick’s favorite wildlife photographs accompanied by inspirational quotes. Mini-lessons on wildlife photography are also included, as well as quick Photoshop tips. iPad version only.

Rick Sammon’s Butterfly Wonders, a beautiful collection of Rick’s favorite butterfly photographs accompanied with information on each animal by butterfly expert Alan Chin Lee. A comprehensive course on close-up photograph is also included.

Rick Sammon’s book, Flying Flowers won the coveted Golden Light Award, and his book Hide and See Under the Sea won the Ben Franklin Award. Rick, who has photographed in almost 100 countries around the world, gives more than two-dozen photography workshops (including private workshops) and presentations around the world each year. When asked about his photo specialty, Rick says, “My specialty is not specializing.”

Andrew Innerarity

andrewd2hed.jpgOn Thursday, December 1st 2011 at 7:30pm Fort Lauderdale, Florida based professional photographer Andrew Innerarity will be South Florida Camera Club’s guest speaker.

Bring you camera to this meeting! After and exciting presentation Andrew will be giving a workshop on shooting a pinup model with a real model and using lighting!

Andrew Innerarity has completed award-winning photojournalism, portraiture and adventure travel assignments across the United States, Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Cuba, Germany, Russia, France, Spain, Italy, Sudan, Mali, Kenya, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macao, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, Afghanistan and Iraq. Innerarity’s subjects are as varied as the parts of the globe he has been assignment to, ranging from Opium eradication stories in Afghanistan’s Oruzgan Province, to U.S. Presidential Campaigns and portraits of the United States’ best bets for Olympic champions at American training facilities.

Andrews’s awards include an assignment during his term at the Eddie Adams Workshop and selection to be one of 90 African American Photojournalists invited to celebrate Life Magazine staff photographer, director of Shaft, poet, author and composer, Gordon Park’s 90th birthday.

Andrew Innerarity was born in Kingston, Jamaica and immigrated to Miami at age 11. As a senior at American High School, Andrew received an honorable mention in the journalism category of the Miami Herald’s Silver Knight competition, for his socially conscious work with other high school students.

After 4 successive photography internships at the Miami Herald and 2 at the Los Angeles Times, upon graduating the University of Southern California with a B.A in European History, Innerarity accepted a staff photography position at the Miami Herald. After 9 years at the Herald in which he was part of the paper’s team whose coverage of Hurricane Andrew received the Pulitzer Prize.

Innerarity spent 2 years as a staff photographer at the Atlanta Bureau of the Associated Press where he covered events and subjects of national and international importance. Subsequent to the AP, Innerarity held a staff photography position at the St Petersburg Times where his most memorable assignment was coverage of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Cuba. Innerarity departed the Times for a staff position at the Houston Chronicle where his documentary photography garnered both statewide and national recognition, among them, a Texas Headliner and a DART Center award for photojournalism.

After almost 3 years as a staff photographer at the South Florida Sun Sentinel, where Innerarity honed his visual presentation skill by working with award-winning page designers; their work was recognized by the Society of News Design in 2006.

At present, Innerarity’s professional emphasis is bringing his years of experience in photojournalism and stylized portraiture to couples on their wedding day via Art of I Do.

Commercial Photographer Jerry Rabinowitz

jerry_r.jpgOn Thursday November 3rd, 2011 architectural photographer Jerry Rabinowitz will be our guest speaker!

Jerry Rabinowitz has been a commercial photographer for almost 30 years, and specializes in architecture and architectural based themes. His clients include national and regional magazines, corporate and advertising clientele. Jerry was a large format photographer for many years, but Jerry’s workflow has since become 100% digital. Jerry was president of ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) in New Mexico, and lectured for Fujifilm. He now teaches lighting at Palm Beach Photographic Centre.

As a photographer, I always wonder why I shoot what I do, says Jerry. At the meeting Jerry will explore the process involved in image creation. Jerry states that “in the digital world megapixels, algorithms and workflow seem to rule”, and ask “Does the technical dominate or is the image the destination?” Jerry will also discuss architectural photography, as well as a look at the decision process in photography.

Jerry has been working on a few personal projects and will be showing us those images and telling us the stories behind them. Jerry will be taking questions and discuaaing the ups and downs of being a working professional photographer.

This presentation is free for South Florida Camera Club paid members. If you’re not a paid club member, this presentation will be $40.00. Kim Seng (AKA) Captain Kimo

Captain Kimo is a professional photographer, coffee connoisseur, techno geek and world traveler. His photos have been published and exhibited in several publications, exhibitions and galleries. Kim teaches photography and trains people how to use photography software. His experience goes beyond the camera and extends further in technology. Kim Sang has over a decade of professional experience using Photoshop and other Adobe products. Kim’s expertise is in the field of High Dynamic Range Photography.

Kim Sang graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1999 with a degree in Computer Graphics. He was awarded Best of Portfolio from his graduating class. Kim’s professional work history includes; commercial art, graphic design, web development and art direction.

When asked about his work Kim says “I am as much an artist as I am a photographer. As an artist I strive to capture images that stimulate the imagination. My style is far from realistic or traditional. I would consider it to be more Impressionism because I enhance the color and detail of my photos for greater visual effect. The goal to my art is to instill a dream like response. Where your perception of reality is questioned. In other words… “Wow, is that real?” Whatever my style is… I owe it to technology for getting me there.”

“Technology has allowed me to breath life into my art. Giving me the opportunity to take my photography to a whole new level with endless possibilities.”
